Planning A Successful Small Business

May 15th, 1997. Winfield, BC. Youth With A Mission, Marke†place Mission announced today a Small Business seminar designed to equip Christians in the Marketplace with planning skills and Biblical principles. Planning A Successful Small Business will run in the evenings from June 8th to June 14th at the Winfield Base. The seminar leader, Mike McLoughlin is the Founder of Marke†place Mission and works as a Small Business Trainer and Consultant with Youth With A Mission. "Individuals thinking of starting a business need both the character and the skills to succeed," says McLoughlin, who spent two years as a missionary in Zambia training entrepreneurs. "Without strong character business people may succeed at first; however, a lack of integrity will inevitably lead to failure. Likewise, unless a person has proper business skills, mistakes will be made that will hinder business success. This seminar will address both areas from a Biblical perspective."

"Society desperately needs greater confidence in their business community," warns McLoughlin, "The recent collapse of Bre X Mines due to business fraud is further evidence of the lack of integrity in business. Only men and women of integrity in business will restore trust in business activity."

"However, character alone is not enough for success. It is a hard fact that three out of every four small businesses will fail within their first five years. Unless small business people are trained well in proper business planning skills they may not have the opportunity to demonstrate the integrity that will restore confidence."

McLoughlin believes that the students of Planning a Successful Small Business Seminar will be well equipped to succeed in their businesses honestly. "Honest business is good for the community and good for society as well as being good for the bottom line," he says.

The seminar is open to current business people, working people interested in business and unemployed or self employed individuals. No previous business experience is necessary to attend. Topics will cover: True success in the marketplace and a biblical perspective of the different functions of a business: planning, marketing, managing, budgeting and staffing.
