A Report on the Progress of Business and Missions
in Creative Access Nations
In April I attended a
Seminar on Business and Missions Intiatives to Creative Access Nations hosted by a Great
Commission Company in a Creative Access Nation. The seminar was sponsored by the Center for Entrepreneurial and Economic Development
(CEED). The topics included teaching on cultural transformation; Joseph as the
Entrepreneur that saves the Prototype Mission (Israel); Success Factors in Business &
Missions initiatives; Character Qualities for the Christian Entrepreneur and working
models of Business as a means to missions.
I found the teaching on cultural transformation positively
transforming! I plan to apply the analogy used in Hebrews 13:12-13 of the different altar
that is outside of the camp to challenge Christians in the marketplace to give up their
worldly business identity in exchange for a Christ-like kingdom identity.
The emphasis of the seminar was on the INTEGRATION of Business and
Missions as the point of the arrow that will bring the gospel to many unreached
peoples groups. It was balanced with the emphasis that there is a distinction in
callings between Christian Service Callings and Business Callings although I consider both
a "ministry" in the general sense of the word. This distinction is important to
make because it enables us to know which structures and rules need to be applied to be
successful in business as well as in missions.
The stories and role models presented by Great Commission Companies and
Nation Discipling Enterprises were inspiring. God is SO good! He is at work EVEN in
business to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Finally, the challenge is to have a heavenly vision (like Joseph) as we
work out our earthly business affairs. This is an absolute MUST if we are going to
answer Gods call and serve HIS purposes in business. What is your heavenly vision? I
see an explosion of Great Commission Businesses penetrating the walls of darkness that
surround many nations, spreading the good news of Jesus Christ, blessing the people and
planting indigenous congregations as a witness to the glory of God. Hallelujah!
